What is therapy?

Therapy is a unique opportunity to receive confidential, evidence-based support and treatment from a provider who is invested in exploring your inner thoughts and emotions, in order to get you from where you are now to where you want to be. You get to work on the areas that you have identified as a problem, and are celebrated for your (often invisible) accomplishments. Therapy isn’t always linear-- it can be uncomfortable, exhausting, invigorating, and rewarding at different times. Think of it like going to the gym, for your brain!

What is therapy?

Consulting is a collaborative process that can help you to identify your strengths as well as areas for growth. The main focus is on building skills that capitalize on those strengths and promote individualized growth. Consulting is not another word for therapy. It is usually short-term or time-bound, and problem specific.

Meeting virtually for online-based services allows us to literally and figuratively meet you where you are. This removes the barriers of a commute, parking, and weather. Some people find that speaking through a screen can reduce feelings of vulnerability by having this additional layer of familiarity and separation. Online-based services may also give us more flexibility in scheduling, especially if you are someone who maintains a non-traditional schedule. Finally, telehealth allows us as clinicians to work with people who might not be located geographically close to us, but still reside within the states where we are licensed.

We are out-of-network providers. This means that we accept private pay in the form of a credit card submitted privately through our electronic payment portal. There are many reasons why we bill in this way. First, we protect your confidentiality by not sharing your information with third parties such as insurance companies. Second, there is sometimes the pressure to diagnose in order to be reimbursed; by not involving insurance, our clients can benefit from services whether they meet clinical criteria for a mental health diagnosis or not. Furthermore, being out of network allows us to customize our approach to your goals by working on your timeline, not your insurance company’s recommendation.
